Hello everyone,

I am planning to install some IKEA Platsa furniture in my living room, but I find their appearance a bit too standard for my taste. Therefore, I am interested in exploring ways to customize the Platsa furniture visually. I am thinking about options to possibly change the color, combine them with other materials, or enhance the surfaces without affecting their functionality.

Has anyone had experience with painting, applying adhesive covers, or adding extra components such as handles or additional shelves? Which techniques are practical and durable for everyday use?

I would be very grateful for any tips, recommendations, or examples!

Hi, the easiest way to upgrade Platsa is by using self-adhesive film (e.g., vinyl). Alternatively, you can paint the fronts; for this, they should be properly sanded and degreased beforehand. Installing new handles also adds accents.

For targeted visual customization of IKEA Platsa furniture, a combination of various methods is recommended:

- Painting the fronts with acrylic paint or chalk paint to achieve a personalized color and texture
- Using decorative films or veneers, which can be applied with special mounting adhesive or self-adhesive materials
- Replacing standard handles with designer handles made of metal, wood, or ceramic to significantly enhance the overall appearance
- Adding shelves made of glass or wood for more variety and texture

It is always important to check the compatibility of materials and to thoroughly prepare the surface before treatment to ensure a durable result.

Oh, you’ve picked an exciting project! Platsa is really versatile, but it’s not love at first sight. For a fresh look, I can definitely recommend colored adhesive films—they’re fantastic, very durable, and can even replace new paint layers if you want to change things up later.

Don’t underestimate the impact of different handles—they instantly add personality, and you almost feel like the design manager of your place. And if you’re handy, custom-sized wooden panels as tops or U-shaped edges look amazing! 👌

If you’re in the mood, you can also paint the surfaces with matte varnish. This gives everything a particularly elegant and scratch-resistant finish.

I would recommend removing the fronts first. Then you can either paint them with a matte finish or use self-adhesive films with wood or stone patterns. New handles make a big difference; it’s best to choose ones that are as flat as possible or with strong contrast.

Oh, I completely repainted my Platsa cabinets using so-called chalk paint. It’s really fun and gives a great vintage look! Just treat them occasionally with wax, and you’re done!

It’s important that the paint dries well and that you use fine sandpaper in between coats. It looks very professional that way.

And the best part: you can always adjust the color depending on your mood. Good luck, it will look great!
