ARBEN66I am currently considering how to use my IKEA Platsa furniture as multifunctionally as possible, especially in smaller rooms where storage and flexibility are extremely important. Does anyone have experience with conversion solutions or combinations that turn the individual components into more than just simple cabinets—such as seating, workspaces, or room dividers? I’m particularly interested in tips on using the modules with drawers and doors for different purposes, as well as ideas on how to cleverly organize the interior space for various storage needs. Thanks in advance!
For the multifunctional use of IKEA PLATSA furniture, I recommend the following approaches:
- Alternate between open and closed modules to combine privacy screening and storage space.
- The internal dividers in the drawers allow flexible organization of small items.
- Modules can be stacked horizontally or extended vertically to fit room heights perfectly.
- For seating, sturdy top panels can be installed and fitted with cushions.
- They can also be used as media units, as cable outlets can be built in or added later.
A thoughtful planning of dimensions and functions before purchase is essential.

Sturdy deck boards can be installed for seating and fitted with cushions.I find that really helpful because I was unsure about exactly that. I have a small hallway where otherwise I have no comfortable place to sit. Also, I often get annoyed by the messy look of open shelves. It’s reassuring that the modules can be designed so flexibly without everything looking untidy. Sometimes rearranging furniture feels a bit overwhelming to me, but the clear tips bring structure.

I use PLATSA units as room dividers with the back open to separate two areas. That sounds interesting. Do you keep the back open to maintain visual openness between the spaces? How stable is the room divider in your setup?

Do you have certain arrangements that have worked particularly well, for example for clothing versus books or other items? I’d like to combine functionality with a clean look and avoid overcrowding.
