Hello everyone,
Iâm currently thinking about how to visually and functionally upgrade my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. The kitchen has been installed for two years, but itâs starting to look a bit dull, and some minor functional issues have become noticeable, like the hinges and handles.
Iâm mainly interested in practical solutions that I can implement myself relatively easily, without having to completely dismantle the kitchen. Possible options could be different handles, paint or adhesive foil finishes, but also functional additions such as improved internal organization or storage systems.
Do you have any experience with useful upgrades for Metod kitchens or maybe even tricks that Ikea itself doesnât offer? I would really appreciate concrete tips, materials, and possibly sources to obtain them! Thanks in advance.

Wood-effect or black films are very popular Oh yes, films are definitely the secret weapon! They can really transform a plain white kitchen into something cool without the stress of a full renovation đ .
For example, I applied black films to the cabinet fronts myself. Tip: be patient, and using warm air (a hairdryer) helps to apply them smoothly! And honestly, a little imperfection adds character đ.
Personally, I love handles with a brass look; they really upgrade the kitchenâs appearance. Also, a few LED strips under the wall cabinets create a great ambiance and provide practical task lighting at the same time.
Iâm not usually a fan of sprucing up Ikea kitchens without just replacing them entirely. But since youâre already at it: why not completely change the color scheme? Instead of white, try dark gray or even blue. Metod is modular and sturdy enough to simply swap out the cabinet fronts.
And instead of handles that almost everyone has anyway, consider going handleless or at least using flat, recessed handle strips.
Agreed, but why always go for simple handles? Try something more unusual that really makes a statement. The Metod kitchen is more than just a shelf with doors.

I really appreciate that youâre sharing so many different tips!
A bit about my experience: A year ago, I covered my Metod kitchen cabinets myself with matte anthracite vinyl films and added leather handles â it looks really elegant! I also installed soft-close hinges, which make operating the cabinets much smoother.
Be brave, itâs really fun to see how the kitchen transforms! đ

Thank you for sharing your experience; that sounds exactly like the style Iâm looking for. How did you attach the leather handles? Are there specific products or DIY tips you can recommend?
And regarding the adhesive films: how much effort did that require exactly? Which film did you use and where did you get it from? I want to make sure it doesnât start peeling off after a short time or get damaged when cleaning.
