Ni-shamil13 Nov 2023 09:27Hello everyone,
I am planning a move soon and want to transport my METOD kitchen cabinets safely. Since these are often firmly mounted to the wall and consist of several parts, I am unsure of the best way to dismantle, secure, and load them to avoid damage to both the furniture and the fittings in the new home.
I am particularly interested in whether there are specific methods or tools that can make the transport easier, how to properly protect the cabinet parts (e.g., padding, special wraps), and how to secure the cabinets best in the van or moving truck to prevent shifting.
Has anyone had experience transporting METOD cabinets during a move? What tips and tricks can you recommend to ensure everything arrives safely and undamaged at the new location?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey Ni-shamil,
first of all, respect for the detailed question – it makes it easier for us to give helpful advice! 🙂
I have transported METOD cabinets twice during moves and can recommend the following:
- Disassemble the cabinets as much as possible, meaning remove doors, shelves, and back panels. The more separate parts, the easier the transport.
- For protection: wrap the parts in bubble wrap or blankets, then secure them with stretch film.
- Don’t lose small screws and fittings – collect everything in bags and ideally attach them to a part or transport them in a box.
- When transporting in a car or van, secure everything with ratchet straps to prevent shifting.
This might sound obvious, but I’ve seen people carry doors without padding – that usually ends in ugly scratches. So better be safe than sorry!
Good luck with your move – everything will surely work out!

If possible, disassemble cabinets by removing doors, shelves, and back panels. The more individual parts, the easier the transport. In my opinion, this is the most important step, which I want to emphasize. METOD cabinets are sturdy, but the weight and profiles of the individual components make it complicated to transport them fully assembled.
Here is a detailed procedure of how I approach this:
- Before disassembly, remove all doors, drawers, and shelves, and pack them separately and securely
- Collect all screws, dowels, and fittings systematically in small labeled containers or resealable bags to make reassembly easier
- Carefully remove the back panels using a putty knife, as they are often thin and fragile
- After disassembly, place the cabinet carcasses on moving blankets and then wrap them in stretch film to prevent scratches
- For transport, ensure a flat loading surface, ideally transporting the parts lying flat to avoid deformation caused by tension
Additionally, I would like to ask about the size of the cabinets and whether you have any special corners or sharp angles that might complicate disassembly? That significantly affects the optimal transport method.

Before dismantling, remove all doors, drawers, and shelves, and pack them separately and very securelyThis is absolutely essential. Additionally, it is important to note that METOD cabinets are made of chipboard, which is susceptible to moisture. Therefore, be sure to:
- Store all removed parts in a dry place and cover them well during transport in bad weather
- Secure them with appropriate straps depending on the vehicle, but not too tightly to avoid damaging the boards
- If possible, use blankets on the transport furniture to protect against impacts
I would also recommend using consumables like felt pads or edge protectors to cushion the sharp corners.
One final tip: Having a detailed plan for reassembly on site, possibly including handwritten notes or photos taken during dismantling, will save a lot of time and frustration later.
