ᐅ How can I stabilize Ikea Pax wardrobes on uneven floors?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased several Ikea Pax wardrobes and plan to place them on a floor that is unfortunately quite uneven. The irregularities reach up to 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) diagonally over about 1 meter (3.3 feet), which of course affects the stability of the wardrobes. My main question is: how can I effectively stabilize Ikea Pax wardrobes on uneven floors so that they neither tip over nor get damaged? I am inclined to adjust the feet, but since Ikea Pax wardrobes do not come with adjustable feet by default, I wonder if there are any recommended solutions or tricks to compensate for the unevenness. I would really appreciate practical experience, tips on specific materials, assembly methods, or alternatives to the original feet. Thanks in advance!

Sometimes it’s enough to keep the packaging of Ikea Pax legs if you have adjustable ones included or if you have matching legs from another piece of furniture. Just try out what fits in diameter and mounting dimensions, and if necessary, adjust with small wooden shims. This surprisingly worked really well for me. ?

I also want to encourage you not to rely solely on the first trial positioning, but to carefully check the foot adjustments with a spirit level. In my experience, even small amounts of expanding foam or adhesive can help to securely fix the position on the base. However, always make sure to include the wall fasteners!

Also: Never support your structure on only one or two legs while leaving the others unsupported.

Exactly! That’s what I learned when I initially stabilized mine on just three legs – it still wobbled. So it’s better to properly adjust all four! Come on, guys, give it a try, it’s definitely worth it!

One small technical note: Most Ikea Pax wardrobes have a base panel made of 16mm (5/8 inch) particleboard. For securely attaching new legs, it is advisable to first reinforce the area by pressing through again and, if necessary, installing metal threaded inserts or rosette nuts to ensure load-bearing capacity and long-term stability.

Otherwise, as the load increases (from clothing, doors, shelves), there is a higher risk that the fastenings will loosen or tear out. Distributing the weight of the wardrobe evenly helps, as does regularly checking and readjusting the legs.

Thank you for the tip. Could you please briefly explain what type of metal threaded inserts or rosette nuts you mean exactly and where I can best get them? Are these special furniture fasteners or just standard threaded bushings? That would be very helpful for my planning.

T-nuts are special press-in nuts that can be installed into a pre-drilled hole in particleboard using a press or a hammer – they provide a permanent internal thread, usually M6 or M8, for a secure screw connection. They are widely used in furniture construction, often referred to as "insert nuts" or "furniture insert nuts."

Sources for purchase include hardware stores, specialty retailers, and online shops for furniture fittings. It is important to match the size to the bolts being used.

Installation is done before attaching the legs:
1. Pre-drill the hole at the designated spot (drill diameter according to manufacturer’s instructions),
2. Insert the nut using a striking tool,
3. Tighten the internal thread screw.

This method prevents the screws from pulling out of the soft wood-based panel.
