Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am looking for ways to make the installation as easy as possible. I am especially interested in practical tips that save time, help avoid common pitfalls in advance, and ideally make handling some of the quite heavy components easier. Are there any specific tools, assembly tricks, or methods that have proven effective based on your experience? I want to do the installation myself without professional tradespeople but still achieve a clean and sturdy result.

I look forward to your advice and experiences!

I can definitely relate! When I assembled my Metod kitchen, I was also a bit worried about whether I could manage it all on my own. One tip that helped me a lot was careful preparation: unpack and sort all the parts beforehand, and put seemingly confusing screws into small containers.

What also encouraged me was strictly following the instructions step by step and, if needed, watching videos from Ikea or other DIY enthusiasts at the same time. Especially the metal connectors and hinges seem complicated at first, but with patience, it works out well.

I would also recommend moving and assembling the heavy cabinets with two people whenever possible. Especially for tall cabinets, I wouldn’t attempt it alone because the risk of injury or damage is too high.

How has your experience with furniture assembly been so far? Do you feel confident with DIY tasks in general, or are there specific areas that worry you?

I would recommend:
- Always work in pairs when handling large modules.
- Use cordless screwdrivers with torque control.
- Always sort screws and components and keep them within easy reach.
- Consistently use squares and spirit levels.
- Use clamps to secure parts in place.

This saves time and minimizes errors.

This is exactly where the key to success lies. The Metod components are designed so that overtightening the screws either damages the furniture or makes assembly more difficult. I recommend the following approach:

- Before assembly, make sure to set the cordless screwdriver to low torque and only tighten the screws until they are just snug.
- The fixings are usually done with dowels and metal connectors, which do not require excessive pressure.

A common mistake I see is aligning the units without a spirit level. This later causes problems when attaching the doors and results in uneven gaps. Use a spirit level and possibly small shims to compensate for height differences.

I also recommend setting up all carcasses before permanently screwing them together and aligning them provisionally to ensure a precise fit. If you keep this in mind, you will be able to work much more calmly and in a controlled manner.

If you like, I can also provide a short checklist of the most important assembly steps here.
