Hello everyone, I am planning to install several Billy shelves from Ikea in my apartment, but without the included back panels. My question is: How can I securely and stably fasten these shelves to the wall without the back panel so they don’t tip over or come loose? I am particularly interested in which anchors, fastening methods, and possibly additional reinforcements are recommended to keep the shelf structure safe. It is also important to me whether special brackets or other fittings are advisable and how to best ensure load distribution without the back panel. Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Install angle brackets at the top and bottom corners and secure them with appropriate anchors. Do not apply heavy loads without a back panel, as the shelves may tip over.

In addition to securing to the wall with sturdy brackets, it should be checked whether additional internal braces or crossbars can be installed to make the box shape more rigid.

This is an important point. Internal side battens or additional bracing significantly increase rigidity. This provides better load distribution and prevents deformation.

If you have the option to reinforce the shelves inside with short wooden cross braces ..., the overall stability will be significantly improved.

Highly recommended, especially when heavy books or equipment are placed inside.

In summary: The combination of suitable anchors, sturdy wall brackets, and internal reinforcements ensures safety for shelves without a back panel.
