Hello everyone,
I am planning to mount my new Malm bed and the matching nightstand on a wooden wall. Since I’m not exactly sure how to proceed, I would like to ask: How can I securely and permanently attach Malm furniture to wooden walls without damaging the furniture or compromising the wall’s stability?
The wooden wall is made of glued solid wood, about 18 mm (0.7 inches) thick. There are no visible additional beams or substructures in the wall that I could use. I would also like to know which screws or anchors are best suited and whether there are any special mounting techniques for Malm furniture that should definitely be considered.
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

An additional important factor is the quality of the screws: stainless steel A2 or galvanized screws provide good corrosion resistance.
For the wooden wall made of 18 mm (0.7 inches) solid wood, ensure sufficient pre-drilling depth, at least half the length of the screw, to avoid stressing the wood.
If possible, insert the screws at a 90° angle to the surface to minimize shear forces.
Especially with Malm furniture, the mounting should be done in a way that the load is mainly perpendicular to the screw axis.
If you expect heavier loads, additional mounting brackets are a simple way to better distribute the load onto the wall.

Pre-drill directly into the wooden wall and then fasten with appropriate wood screws. This is basically correct, but I would like to add that especially with 18 mm (0.7 inch) solid wood, the choice of screw thickness and length is crucial to prevent splitting.

Screws without anchors directly into the wooden wall. This also applies in this case, as anchors are usually not necessary with solid wood and can even be counterproductive.
My recommendation remains:
- Screws with a 5 mm (0.2 inch) diameter
- Length at least 70–80 mm (2.8–3.1 inches)
- Pre-drill with a small drill bit
- Use of corner brackets for load distribution with heavy furniture
It is certain that this approach makes furniture fastening to wooden walls significantly more stable than simply using screws without preparation.
