Hello everyone, I recently purchased some MALM furniture from IKEA, which I find appealing in both design and functionality. However, I am concerned about stability, especially in households with small children or pets. My specific question is: How can I secure MALM furniture to prevent tipping, so that it remains stable under load or when drawers are opened, posing no risk? Are there proven methods, practical safety systems, or special precautions when handling this furniture to sustainably reduce the risk of tipping? I would greatly appreciate detailed tips or experiences.

Hey, this topic is really important – safety comes first! 🙂

Recently, I secured my Malm dresser using the IKEA wall anchors plus some additional rubber pads on the feet. It holds very well, and my cats have also gotten used to not messing with it!

Fun fact: My little nephew once tried to fully load the drawer and open it – nothing fell over! So it’s really practical.

My advice: If you want to secure it properly, definitely install a hasp lock on the drawer too, especially if there are children in the house. Safety always comes first, and the extra effort is really worth it! 🙂

Choosing the right fasteners is crucial – anchors and screws must suit the wall

This is an important point I want to emphasize. Many buyers overlook the wall material and use inappropriate anchors, which significantly reduces the safety function.

Additionally, I recommend regularly checking the durability after installation, especially if the furniture is heavily used or if children often climb on it.

For long-term safety, it is also important not only to secure the furniture but to optimize the center of gravity by proper loading.
