Hello everyone, I want to retrofit the existing doors on my Ikea Pax wardrobe system with a soft-close mechanism. My doors are the standard wooden framed doors, not sliding doors. It is especially important to me that the retrofit is as simple as possible and requires minimal modification to the door profiles. I also prefer a system that provides cushioning when closing to prevent slamming. Can anyone offer advice on which soft-close systems are compatible or the best way to convert Pax doors? Are there specific hinges or damping components that are recommended? Thanks for any tips and experiences!

Adhesive buffers usually hold well if the surface is clean and smooth. They improve the closing action without the need to replace hinges. However, this is not a perfect damping solution but rather a type of buffer that softens the impact when closing.

I installed Ikea soft-close hinges on my Pax doors. The installation was relatively straightforward since the holes were already pre-drilled. It is important to adjust the hinges precisely; otherwise, the door will not close properly. After installation, the closing function improved significantly.

I am now also using the soft-close hinges, as sanjon describes. At first, I was unsure if the effort was worthwhile, but especially with children, the difference is noticeable. The gentle closing prevents noise and protects the cabinet. For me, retrofitting was definitely worth it.

If someone does not want to use the original hinges from Ikea: there are universal soft-close hinges available, but these must be carefully checked beforehand for door thickness and cabinet type. Installation and adjustment are somewhat more complex, but they are often more affordable. Those with limited handyman skills should, however, stick with the Ikea models.
