Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Besta furniture set and now want to add practical power strips to it. My specific question is: How can I retrofit IKEA Besta furniture with power strips without affecting the appearance, while ensuring a safe, stable, and functional power supply? I imagine the power strips should be installed as discreetly as possible, for example inside the cabinet or on the back panel, to avoid cable clutter. I am also interested in which types of power strips are suitable for this, the most practical locations for installation, and whether there are special tips or materials to use for mounting. Are there any considerations regarding the electrical system or the furniture structure? Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Regarding your USB outlet topic: There are compact power strips with integrated USB ports that can be easily installed inside enclosed furniture. However, make sure the strip is well ventilated, as USB charging electronics tend to generate heat. For mounting, I recommend using Velcro strips or self-adhesive mounting plates, as these allow for easy removal or repositioning. Additionally, the power supply should be arranged so that a full disassembly is not required in case of repairs. This protects the furniture structure and makes modifications easier.

I find it a bit annoying how quickly cables get tangled or collect dust when they are just placed inside furniture. When retrofitting Besta with power strips, I highly recommend remembering to clean regularly and, if possible, use cable clips or cable channels. It feels much better afterwards when everything is tidy. A little patience during installation pays off. If you feel uncertain about the electrical installation, get someone to help – better safe than sorry!
