Hello everyone, I recently purchased an IKEA Besta furniture set and now want to add practical power strips to it. My specific question is: How can I retrofit IKEA Besta furniture with power strips without affecting the appearance, while ensuring a safe, stable, and functional power supply? I imagine the power strips should be installed as discreetly as possible, for example inside the cabinet or on the back panel, to avoid cable clutter. I am also interested in which types of power strips are suitable for this, the most practical locations for installation, and whether there are special tips or materials to use for mounting. Are there any considerations regarding the electrical system or the furniture structure? Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Hey Nuteklo, really cool project! 😃 I also installed power strips in my Besta, and it worked really well. It’s important to choose a power strip with a slim profile, preferably with a flat back, so it fits neatly against the back panel inside. You can then secure it with small brackets or self-adhesive mounting clips – that holds very firmly. Simply route the cables inside the furniture and fix them with cable ties to keep everything tidy! You should also look for a power strip with surge protection for added safety. Definitely give this a try, it’s really fun and adds a lot of convenience!

Simply screw the power strip to the back panel using screws, and place the cable inside a cable duct. Make sure that no ventilation openings are blocked.

To safely and effectively retrofit IKEA Besta furniture with power strips, I recommend the following approach:
- Use flat power strips with grounded outlets and surge protection.
- Attach the power strip to the back panel or inside of the furniture using screws, mounting clips, or double-sided industrial tape, provided the surface allows it.
- Route cables through existing cable openings or, if necessary, drill small holes in inconspicuous spots to neatly organize the wiring.
- Ensure the power strip does not interfere with ventilation areas or the structural stability of the furniture.
- Consider the maximum load capacity of the power strip and avoid exceeding it.
- If uncertain, have the electrical installation inspected by a qualified professional.

This way, you ensure functionality, appearance, and safety.

This is an important point. Many people underestimate how much a tidy cable management improves the overall appearance. Additionally, the load on the power strip should be considered, especially when connecting multiple devices. It is also advisable to split the power supply across several strips to avoid overloading.

That’s a very good tip, thanks! Does anyone use power strips with USB ports to directly connect chargers? What has been the experience regarding heat generation or durability?

Additionally, I’m interested to know if there are specific mounting methods that allow the power strip to remain flexible in case devices need to be swapped or the setup needs to be adjusted slightly.
