Hello everyone, I recently bought some furniture from the Ikea BRIMNES series, but after assembling it, I encountered a problem: some parts of the furniture wobble significantly, even though I tightened all the screws according to the instructions. Since the furniture is otherwise very practical and looks good, I want to avoid simply exchanging or buying new pieces.
My question is: how can I fix the Ikea BRIMNES furniture if it wobbles? Are there any specific tricks to increase stability without damaging the furniture? Which screws or connections should be checked carefully, and how should I best deal with potential material issues, such as swollen wood or loosened metal fittings?
I look forward to your experiences and tips!

I can give a quick tip: Check the connection to the back panel. A cabinet often wobbles if the back panel isn’t properly in place or is nailed too loosely.
Simply secure it firmly with a hammer and new nails – that usually fixes the problem.
Also, make sure the furniture is standing on a level surface.

Are there any special tips to improve stability without damaging the furniture? To address your question in detail, it is important to first understand the construction of the Brimnes series:
These pieces are mainly made from MDF and particleboard, with joints based on cam lock fittings, dowels, and mostly simple nails for the back panel. Due to the materials used, screw holes may become loose over time, especially if the furniture is exposed to moisture or heavy loads.
My recommendation for a stable repair:
- Get a fast-curing wood glue (PU glue, not just PVA), which penetrates deeper into MDF.
- Unscrew loose screws, carefully clean the holes, and if necessary, smooth them with fine sandpaper.
- Carefully fill the holes with a mixture of wood shavings and glue to create a new solid surface.
- Allow the mixture to cure for at least 12 hours.
- Retighten screws with appropriate torque, and replace them with longer screws if possible.
- Check the connecting hardware for rust or damage and replace if needed.
I am also curious whether the furniture is placed on an uneven floor, as this is often underestimated. Additionally, you might consider attaching internal corner brackets, as others have suggested, since these significantly improve rectangular stability.
Is this issue occurring with just one dresser or with several pieces from the BRIMNES series?

I’m curious where exactly the wobbling occurs for you – at the feet, the sides, or the shelves? The wobbling mainly happens at the side panels of the dresser, especially when I apply slight pressure from the side. The feet rest on a fairly level laminate floor.

Is the issue only with a single dresser, or have you noticed it with multiple pieces from the BRIMNES series? At the moment, it only affects this dresser, but I plan to pay close attention after the repair to see if similar problems appear with other furniture.
Thanks to everyone for the many helpful tips – I will try the suggested repair steps and can provide further feedback afterwards.
