Gitta56-12 Oct 2012 17:03I am currently trying to update our house and am removing the old wallpaper in the hallway. It has a kind of plastic foam coating on the surface, which makes it very difficult to remove with water. I have to go over it with a sponge for a long time to reach the base layer. Overall, using a scraper to remove it is just as time-consuming. Does anyone have any tips on how to remove this stubborn wallpaper as quickly as possible?

MODERATOR2 Oct 2012 21:08You will need a so-called wallpaper perforator, which is a roller covered with spikes. Use it carefully—just enough to punch holes through the wallpaper, but not the plaster underneath.
Then spray the wallpapered area with wallpaper remover or a solution of warm water and dish soap (cheaper and works just as well).
Wait a bit, then start removing the wallpaper. If it doesn’t come off right away, repeat the process; it’s important that the textured wallpaper is thoroughly perforated. Only then can the wallpaper remover reach the adhesive.

Richard-14 Sep 2014 13:11I also had this problem some time ago. This type of wallpaper is extremely stubborn and caused me quite a bit of frustration. I also got one of those spiked rollers, and after practicing several times, it worked well.
