Hello everyone,
I have a Malm bed from IKEA, and for some time now, a constant squeaking noise has been bothering me when lying down or moving. The sound seems to come from the connection between the slatted base and the frame or the metal fittings at the headboard or footboard, but I’m not sure if it could also be caused by the screws or the wooden slats.
So far, I’ve tried tightening the screws, but that only helped temporarily. I don’t want to just try things randomly without a plan. Does anyone have specific tips or experience on how to permanently reduce or eliminate the squeaking noise? Maybe there are special lubricants, padding materials, or other proven methods?
I’m looking forward to your practical suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for the great tips and methods.
For testing, I will first attach some felt pads where wood meets wood, as according to your advice this is often a common cause. I also have Teflon spray here, which I can apply to metal parts.
I also find the tip about baby powder interesting, as I was somewhat skeptical about oil-based solutions.
My approach will be to completely disassemble the bed, clean it thoroughly, and then apply the recommended damping materials step by step.
If that doesn’t help, I can then try the more advanced suggestions like wax or furniture oil. I’ll get back to you if I need help with the implementation.
Just a quick question: Are there construction differences in Malm models that make squeaking more likely? Or are the solutions generally the same across all versions?
Thanks again for your support!
