Hello everyone,

I recently ordered the IKEA Brimnes bed and am currently facing the challenge of significantly reducing the assembly time. Although I found the instruction manual clear, so far the build has taken me almost three times as long as stated in the manual.

Therefore, my specific question is: How can I effectively reduce the assembly time for the IKEA BRIMNES bed without compromising quality or stability? Are there proven tips to make the process easier or any tools that are particularly helpful?

I have basic tools ready (screwdriver, cordless drill) and some experience in furniture assembly, but I would like to become more efficient.

Thanks in advance for any advice and shared experiences!

Hello lismu64,

your concern is very understandable. The assembly time for BRIMNES can actually be reduced significantly using a few methods. Below, I have outlined a structured approach in three points.

1. Preparation:
- Lay out all parts in a large, organized area so you can easily reach everything.
- Sort screws and fittings by type and quantity according to the instructions. This avoids long searching times.

2. Tools:
- A cordless screwdriver with torque control greatly speeds up assembly and ensures screws are not over-tightened.
- Additionally, I recommend a hex key set, as IKEA often uses custom sizes.

3. Working method:
- Work step by step according to the instructions, but already look out for components that are needed multiple times.
- If possible, have a second person help, especially with heavier parts. This saves time and increases accuracy.

Common mistakes:
- Tightening screws too firmly before all parts are connected – this often requires readjustment later.
- Confusing individual parts by not keeping them properly separated.

In summary:
- Thorough preparation
- Appropriate tools
- Thoughtful work steps

Follow these guidelines, and you should be able to reduce the assembly time by at least half. Good luck!

Very important: Take your time for thorough preparation and avoid rushing through the process. This will save you a lot of trouble later on.

My tip: Use a cordless drill with adjustable torque, sort all the parts beforehand, and most importantly, insert all screws loosely first before tightening them fully.

Hello lismu64,

I have assembled the BRIMNES bed three times already (for family and friends) and can offer a few additional tips that might help you reduce the assembly time.

For example, I found that although the included Allen wrench is usable, it’s much more comfortable to work with a slightly longer hex key or a good Allen bit in a cordless drill. This makes it easier to apply it accurately without slipping.

I also developed the habit of initially screwing all the screws in manually just a few turns so that the parts don’t shift. Only when all screws in one assembly step are loosely in place do I tighten them fully with the drill. This prevents surprises and rework.

Additionally, I recommend:
- Flipping through the instructions completely before starting assembly.
- Following the assembly sequence strictly and not improvising, even if it seems tempting.

Regarding tools: A small felt or foam pad is useful to protect low-lying furniture parts from scratches during assembly – this saves touch-ups or frustration later.

If you have any questions, I’m happy to answer them.
