ErolmanHello everyone, I would like to start a discussion here on the topic of "How can I creatively redesign Ikea Platsa for space optimization?" Specifically, I am interested in how the Platsa series, which is quite modular and flexible, can be adapted even better to make the most of small or unusually shaped rooms. I am considering whether the individual modules can be used not only as traditional cabinets but also, for example, as room dividers, seating with storage, or even small workspace niches. Are there any experiences or tips on how to use Platsa creatively to maximize both function and design? I look forward to your ideas and experiences!

I’m considering whether the individual modules can be used not only as traditional cabinets but also, for example, as room dividers, seating with storage, or even small work nooks. That’s an interesting approach! I’ve also used my Platsa system this way to visually divide my small apartment without building a wall. I find the option to replace simple doors or add shelves with cushions to create seating areas very creative. It’s important to carefully plan in advance how often you’ll need access to certain compartments—especially when they serve as room dividers. At first, I didn’t realize how quickly it becomes frustrating if the back panel is thin and gets easily damaged when moving things around. Does anyone have tips on how to reinforce the back panels or other tricks to make sure the room divider not only looks good but also stays durable?
A good point regarding stability. Although the Platsa modules are modular, the material is generally quite lightweight, which can affect their use as room dividers. A tip from me: if you want to set them up as room dividers, you can fasten the modules to the ceiling or floor using brackets to increase stability. Alternatively, the back panels can be replaced with your own, slightly thicker boards that you can have cut at a hardware store or cut yourself. This increases protection against damage and provides more stability.
I love the flexibility of Platsa and recently built my system in my home office as a combination of storage and a bench with storage underneath. 😊 I simply added a seat surface on one of the larger modules, topped with a padded cushion – and voilà, a cozy corner that also keeps things organized. Additionally, I attached caster plates under the modules to increase the variety of room layouts. Sometimes you need the space elsewhere, so I can easily move the parts around. Definitely give this a try, especially if you like rearranging your space!
Wow, I really like these creative ideas! My recommendation would be to equip the Platsa modules with LED strip lights – this not only adds a stylish touch but also creates a nice atmosphere when using the cabinet as a room divider in the living room. You can also lean them against the wall and set them up lengthwise to create small niches. I did this to separate my reading area from the rest of the room. It’s really fun to experiment with! So keep at it, the effort is definitely worth it!
Platsa is great for corner solutions. Make use of the corner with combined modules, which can be left as is with matching cover panels or expanded. You can also cleverly install drawers to create additional storage space. As a room divider, I recommend adding weight from above. This will make the structure more stable.
