Hello everyone, I have several Malm dressers from IKEA and want to protect them from scratches. The problem is that I often place small items on them, which can easily damage the surface. Therefore, my question is: What methods or products do you recommend to effectively protect Malm dressers from scratches without significantly changing the look or feel of the furniture? I am thinking of protective films, glass tops, or special coatings but am unsure which option works best in the long term. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Better to use a glass top! It offers reliable protection and is easy to clean. You lose very little aesthetically if you choose a clear one. Avoid varnishes or coatings, as they often don’t last long and repairing them can be tedious.
Thanks for the quick responses! The glass top sounds appealing since I’d like to keep the surface visible. But what about the weight and stability? Does such a top fit well on a Malm dresser, or is it prone to slipping? Are there any experiences with this? Also, do scratches appear on the dresser itself if small items are regularly placed on it, even when they have felt pads attached?
