Hello everyone, I am currently setting up a home office and have chosen IKEA Platsa furniture because it seems flexible and modular. My question is: How can I best optimize the PLATSA furniture to create an ergonomic, productive, and organized workspace?

At the moment, I have a set with several cabinets and shelving units, but I feel that the work surface is not yet used optimally and that I could create more order. Cable management and lighting are also somewhat challenging.

What tips do you have for making PLATSA furniture more functional specifically for home office use? Are there any recommended additions, clever rearrangements, or accessories to get the most out of this system? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

The PLATSA series is indeed very customizable, which makes it ideal for home office solutions.

In my opinion, the initial focus should be on ergonomic setup. This means arranging the desk to achieve a comfortable sitting height with enough legroom. An adjustable office chair complements this well.

- To optimize the workspace, I recommend using pull-out trays and inner drawers within the PLATSA units so that frequently used items are easily accessible and the desk surface remains clear.
- Cable management can be achieved by attaching cable channels or clips to the back of the furniture; this is discreet and practical.
- For lighting, LED light strips can be installed inside the shelves, providing additional indirect light at the workstation.

If you value a tidy overall look, doors instead of open shelves can help reduce visual clutter.

That’s an important point, but the question is whether the table height can really be ideally adjusted with PLATSA. Unlike traditional desks, PLATSA components are fixed and offer less variation in height.

I wonder if it might be better to invest in accessories like height-adjustable desk risers or desktop inserts to improve ergonomics.

Additionally, with modular furniture like PLATSA, it’s important to consider whether stability is maintained in larger configurations. It might be wise to reinforce the construction with extra connecting fittings, especially if you place heavy monitors or printers on it.

I think that makes a lot of sense! It’s better to spend a bit more on practical upgrades than to constantly strain your neck or damage your back later on.

I’ve enhanced my PLATSA corner with some smart organizer boxes that hang inside the cabinets – they hold cables, USB sticks, and similar items, so everything isn’t just lying around. I also attached LED light strips under the shelves – this not only increases brightness but also creates a cozy office atmosphere.

A little anecdote: my kitten loves lying under the raised desk – ergonomically perfect and absolutely adorable! 😄

I’ve spent a lot of time on this exact topic and would especially recommend not taking on too much at once.

Your workspace should be enjoyable and stress-free – when too many elements come together, it can quickly feel cluttered. That’s why I decided to keep visible items to a minimum and hide everything I don’t need every day inside PLATSA drawers.

One tip: use labels on the outside of drawers so you can find everything quickly. It also helps reduce the feeling of disorder.

For lighting, I chose warm white LED panels, which for me provide a good balance between daylight and evening light.

What are your typical tasks in the home office? Maybe then we can suggest furniture pieces targeted to your specific needs.

Small practical tips:
- Glue cable ducts to the back wall
- Use IKEA RIGGA clothes rail as a monitor stand
- PLATSA doors to hide office clutter
- Drawer inserts for organization

This helps create a much tidier and more functional home office with minimal effort.
