Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish my small apartment with IKEA Brimnes furniture. Since my room is only about 12 square meters (130 square feet), I am looking for ways to make the most of the Brimnes series—especially in terms of storage, space layout, and multifunctionality. My main focus is on how to practically expand the limited space using the modular elements without overwhelming the room. Are there any tips on how to combine these pieces effectively, for example with drawers under the bed or wall-mounted units, to maximize ergonomics and organization? I am hoping for practical, detailed advice based on experience or even creative suggestions!
Great, thank you for the insights on the load capacity of the shelves and drawers! If I understand correctly, I should be careful with how much weight I store and preferably place lighter items on the shelves to ensure stability.
I have one last question about multifunctionality: Is there anyone here who has combined the Brimnes bed with other furniture from the series to create, for example, space for a work area or additional storage? How did you solve this? Are there any creative tips on how to place a small desk next to the Brimnes without making the space feel too cramped?

Combining Brimnes furniture to create a compact, multifunctional space is quite feasible. For example, you can place a Brimnes nightstand or a small sideboard next to the bed, which can serve as a workspace with a sturdy board as the tabletop. With a narrow chair and minimalist lighting, this can even work well in a small area. Wall shelves above the desk or bed are also ideal for additional storage space. Make sure that walkways remain at least 60 cm (24 inches) wide to maintain functionality. This way, you keep an overview and freedom of movement. Your idea of keeping technology and cables as hidden as possible is also entirely achievable.

Next to the bed, a narrow sideboard serving as a shelf and a small work surface (about 50cm (20 inches) wide). 3. A wall-mounted shelf (from Brimnes or compatible) above the workspace to store books and folders. 4. Cables are secured along the furniture body with cable clips or channels to keep everything neat and safe. It is important not to permanently block seating or walking paths and to ensure the furniture does not appear too bulky (light colors help maintain an open feeling). This combination is very efficient and creates a clearly organized space, even if it is small.
