nasirfiHello everyone,
I have been using Ikea Metod kitchen drawers for a while now and have noticed that they often feel quite noisy and sometimes a bit jerky when opening and closing. My question is: how can I operate Ikea Metod drawers more quietly and smoothly?
I am already using soft-close drawer slides, but I believe there might be further improvement options—such as regarding installation, adjustment, maintenance, or accessories—to make the drawer movement quieter and smoother.
Does anyone have experience or tips on how to keep their use as quiet and gentle as possible, especially in everyday situations? Any advice on the common causes of these mostly annoying noises would also be helpful, so I can address the issue more precisely.
Thanks in advance!

I completely understand your concern—I’ve noticed the same with my own kitchens, where drawers often feel a bit noisy and jerky. Over time, that can be really annoying in daily use, especially when you’re frequently reaching in quickly.
From what I’ve learned so far, sometimes it’s a matter of installation quality. Even a slightly misaligned track can make the drawer movement feel less smooth.
Also, some users have mentioned that the built-in dampers in Metod cabinets can be adjusted over time—like by fine-tuning the end position or applying some silicone spray to the runners. That actually makes the drawer noticeably softer and smoother to operate.
What helped me as well: not overloading the drawer. When the drawer carries too much weight, the slides become heavier and noisier.
I think this topic definitely deserves more attention since we handle drawers several times a day. I’m curious to hear what recommendations others might have!
Hello everyone,
to take a closer look at the topic "How can I operate Ikea Metod drawers more quietly and smoothly?", I would like to share some technical details and useful tips based on experience and various technical sources.
- The usual causes of noise are mechanical friction in the drawer slides, pressure points on plastic parts of the guide, and improperly adjusted drawers.
- It is important to ensure that the drawer slides are mounted perfectly parallel. Even slight misalignments cause uneven load distribution, leading to noise or sticking.
- The damping elements in Ikea Metod drawers – usually small plastic or rubber buffers – must be intact and correctly positioned. Over time, they can wear out or shift.
- A lubricant based on silicone or PTFE (Teflon) is recommended for the drawer slides to reduce friction and improve smooth movement. Avoid oily or greasy products, as these attract dirt.
- For installation: The drawer should run "floating" within the guides, meaning it should not be clamped too tightly. There should be some clearance to prevent sticking but also to avoid wobbling.
If possible, check the exact model and condition of the drawer slides. Some users have also had good experiences with aftermarket dampers that can be installed additionally.
One more question for you: How old are your drawers, and have you ever completely removed and cleaned the slides? Sometimes removing dust and dirt can significantly improve the drawer’s movement.
Best regards!

Just apply a little silicone spray on the outside of the drawer slides, and everything runs smoother and quieter. Important: Do not use oil, as it will just attract dust and make things worse.
