Hello everyone, I’m currently trying to retrofit soft-close functionality to my IKEA Platsa cabinet doors. So far, the doors are fitted with the standard hinges, which unfortunately close quite loudly and forcefully. Does anyone have experience or ideas on how to integrate a soft-close mechanism into PLATSA doors? Which components are suitable, how complex is the installation, and do the standard dampers from other IKEA products fit? Any help is very welcome, including tips on tools or fastening methods. Thanks in advance.

Could you maybe provide more details on that? Which dampers exactly are those, and how secure is such a solution on a fully loaded PLATSA door? Sure. These clip-on or snap-on dampers are small plastic or metal components with an integrated spring and a buffer. They are mounted directly on the hinge mount or the door frame. Brands like BLUM or even IKEA itself offer such dampers, sometimes labeled as "Soft-Close Adapter" or "Soft-Close Clips."
Advantage: No need to replace the entire hinge, quick installation. Disadvantage: The damping is usually weaker than with full soft-close hinges, so with very heavy doors or high loads, the function may not fully engage, or the door may close a bit more forcefully.
I recommend checking the stability especially with heavier doors and, if necessary, replacing the hinges completely. In everyday use, however, the clip-on damper is sufficient for many applications.
I understand that you are hoping for a simple solution that doesn’t require major holes or renovations. Soft-close is definitely a great feature that makes everyday use more pleasant.
Sometimes it’s worth considering whether you can avoid completely replacing the doors and instead reduce noise with light padding or felt bumpers where the doors strike.
However, if soft-close is the priority, you might also consider replacing the doors with ones that already have a soft-close mechanism – of course, this is also a matter of cost.
How are you getting along with the current hinges? What bothers you the most: the noise level or the door impacts themselves?
