Hello everyone, I am planning to use my IKEA Platsa as a TV unit but want to make it more attractive and functional. Since the Platsa series is quite flexible but often looks rather plain, I’m interested in how to enhance the piece visually without having to fully customize it. Specifically, what design options are there, for example, through color accents, lighting, additional elements, or accessories? And how can the furniture be tastefully adapted to a modern living room without it looking like a standard IKEA shelving unit? I look forward to your tips and ideas!

If you mount the TV on the wall, you can choose the Platsa units to be lower. This way, there is space left for decorations on top.

I also recommend dark or matte painted fronts to reduce fingerprints and achieve an elegant look.

I use Plexiglass doors for my Platsa TV unit. They allow you to see the equipment while protecting it from dust and provide a modern look.

This is a great option, especially if you want to allow IR signals from remote controls to pass through. Both Plexiglas and tinted glass offer elegant yet practical solutions for tech and media furniture. However, it is important to choose the right hinges to avoid a cheap-looking impression.

For further customization, handles made of real wood or metal are also possible to add a high-quality accent.

One last detail about durability: Ikea furniture is often functional but not always long-lasting under heavy use or constant wear.

I recommend replacing screws and fittings with high-quality alternatives, as this significantly improves stability and overall feel. Even though it may seem like a lot of work at first, it is worth the effort.
