Hello everyone, I am currently planning to use my IKEA Besta system in the hallway but I am unsure how to make it both safe and practical. The hallway is quite narrow, so it could quickly become cramped if the furniture isn’t properly adapted. My main concern is ensuring stability so that nothing tips over or wobbles, especially when opening the doors or quickly placing items. At the same time, I want to make the most of the storage space without causing people to bump into it or making the hallway feel cluttered. Maybe you have tips on additional fastenings, useful interior layouts, or which Besta components are best suited for this kind of use? Advice on surface treatment to prevent the furniture from getting dirty or damaged too quickly in the hallway would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

An important aspect when using IKEA BESTA in the hallway is securing it to the wall. IKEA provides suitable wall anchors, but I recommend using sturdy plugs and screws (depending on the wall type) to improve stability. It is also advisable to choose lower modules so they do not protrude too high and visually overwhelm smaller hallways. Inside, I suggest a combination of drawers for small items and open compartments with baskets or boxes to organize accessories of different sizes clearly. Finally, you should protect the surface with an easy-to-clean varnish or protective film, as hallways often experience moisture, dirt, and impacts.

I share a similar view but would like to add that for safety reasons, securing the furniture to the wall should be mandatory, especially if children have access to the hallway. Additionally, I recommend using non-slip pads under the BESTA furniture to prevent it from sliding on smooth floors. Regarding interior organization, modular inserts for shoe storage, key holders, and small everyday items are practical, helping to keep the hallway tidy. Good lighting directly above or beside the BESTA enhances usability, for example, with LED strips that activate when the doors are opened.

Safety in the hallway definitely includes the durability of the chosen BESTA material. Some options with glass fronts or high-gloss finishes can show scratches or chipping quickly. If the hallway is a high-traffic area, I would recommend matte fronts or melamine-coated surfaces, as these are more reliable for everyday use. Regarding placement: if possible, hinges should not open into the walking path to avoid bumping into them in narrow hallways. If the furniture is freestanding, securing it firmly to the wall is essential.

Cool idea with the BESTA in the hallway! 😃 I did mine the same way and can only recommend: definitely use wall mounting—it makes the whole setup much safer, especially if you have kids or pets! For practicality, you can add hooks on the side – this way, you’ll always have keys and jackets within easy reach. And to add even more freshness to the hallway: a small fragrance diffuser or plants on top – they make passing by a lot more enjoyable! 🌿

Wall mounting is mandatory. Inside, you can use organizers tailored to your needs, such as shoe compartments, baskets for gloves or scarves. A low-maintenance surface is highly recommended.
