ᐅ How can I make Ikea BESTA drawers operate smoothly and quietly?

EwentiHello everyone, I have relatively new Ikea Besta drawers in my wall unit, which unfortunately do not open and close very quietly or smoothly. Especially when the drawers are fully loaded, they sometimes stick a bit and squeak or feel stiff.
My question to you: How can I make the Ikea Besta drawers operate quietly and smoothly? What simple options are there to improve the rollers or hinges, or possibly replace them entirely? Are there any proven lubricants, dampers, or modifications that come highly recommended? I want to avoid compromising on stability as much as possible, but the user comfort should be significantly improved.
Thanks for your practical advice!

What simple options are there to improve or even completely replace the rollers or hinges?Basically, the BESTA drawers come with plastic rollers in the standard version, which can sometimes run unevenly or cause noise under full load.
Suggestions for improvement:
- Cleaning: Removing dust and dirt from the track significantly improves sliding.
- Lubrication: Using a suitable PTFE or silicone spray provides quiet and smooth movement without damaging the plastic.
- Replacing the rollers: Upgrading to high-quality ball-bearing rollers designed for furniture or rollers made from metal-plastic combinations can greatly enhance performance.
- Damping: Installing rubber buffers or self-adhesive dampers reduces slamming noise when closing.
I recommend using silicone-based lubricants because they are non-sticky and do not attract dust like oil does. For replacements, Ikea-compatible retrofit kits or alternative rollers from hardware stores are good options.
It is important not to overload the drawers, as this speeds up roller wear and hinders smooth operation.

I also tried gluing small felt pads to the contact points of the drawers – this not only makes the drawer quieter but also gives it a softer feel when opening.
And yes, don’t overfill it, or the drawer might give you a serious jam when you pull it out 😅.
A little tip from me: occasionally vacuum the rails, as a lot of dust tends to accumulate there, especially if there’s carpet underneath.
