Hello everyone, I have been using the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers with several drawers for some time now and generally find the operation of the drawers good. However, depending on how full the drawers are or how heavy the items inside are, opening and closing can sometimes feel stiff or difficult. Therefore, I would like to know: What options are there to improve the operation of the Ikea BRIMNES drawers without affecting the appearance or stability of the furniture? Are there common adjustments, tuning tips, or practical DIY solutions that have proven effective in making the drawers easier and smoother to operate? I look forward to hearing about your experiences and concrete suggestions!

What would be the most affordable and practical way to level this?

To level a slightly uneven base surface, I recommend using special furniture pads or felt glides with adhesive backs under the legs of the dresser. These are inexpensive, easy to apply, and provide a stable, horizontal position. Alternatively, adjustable plastic feet that can be screwed or glued onto the furniture are a good option. These measures help prevent the dresser from tilting, which often causes the drawers to jam.

Most of the time, the drawers are quite full because I store all sorts of small items there.

When the drawers are heavily loaded, it often helps to organize the drawer inserts better. Smaller boxes or dividers prevent the contents from shifting, which reduces squeaking and sticking. You should also avoid exceeding the maximum load capacity.

Great topic! I lined my Brimnes drawers with foam inserts, which already reduce a lot of noise and also improve the sliding. Additionally, I treated the slide rails with silicone spray, and now they glide incredibly smoothly! To level out uneven flooring, I simply placed small rubber pads under the feet – it doesn’t get easier or cheaper than that! Keep at it, with a bit of patience you’ll get it done perfectly.
