Hello everyone, I want to set up an Ikea Besta shelf unit, but I am either unable or unwilling to drill holes to fix it to the wall. My question is: How can I securely and stably attach a BESTA shelf unit to the wall without using holes or wall anchors? My main concern is ensuring stability, as the shelf will also be loaded to some extent. What alternatives to drilling are available? I look forward to helpful tips and experiences!

Be safe: Tension rods and rubber pads help a lot. Mounting adhesive is not an alternative for heavy loads.

Adding to my previous comments: If you place the shelf on walls with textured surfaces, such as roughcast or uneven areas, adhesive tapes and similar solutions will hold much less effectively.
Another option is special locking systems designed for furniture safety, for example from the childproofing sector – these systems work without drilling, but are less visually appealing.
One more tip: Regularly check the stability of the shelf, especially when it is loaded. There is no fully reliable alternative to screwing the unit into the wall, but with a clever combination of methods, good results can be achieved.

If drilling is not possible, plan to use pressure or clamping profiles along with sturdy furniture wedges. This way, you avoid damage and maintain stability. With heavy loads, it is difficult to secure everything safely without any drilling.

Definitely give it a try and don’t give up if it feels a bit unstable at first – a little trial and adjustment is worth it.

Exactly! Sometimes it takes a bit of tinkering, but the result can be really impressive. If you combine the support properly with non-slip pads and a tension rod, you can achieve a very secure hold. And if you do need to attach something to the wall, maybe there’s an option with clamp brackets that grip somewhere without drilling. Good luck!
