Hello everyone,
I recently ordered an Ikea Pax wardrobe and am currently quite satisfied with the basic structure. However, I am looking for ways to enhance my Pax with special interior fittings that go beyond the standard Ikea range. I am interested not only in additional storage space but also in customizable solutions, such as more specialized compartment divisions, lighting, or integrated organization tools.
Do you have any experience or recommendations regarding suitable upgrades that can be customized or retrofitted? I am especially interested in tips for optimizing the use of interior space, as well as enhancements that are not only functional but also durable and of high quality. I would like to know which additions are really worthwhile and if you have encountered any problems or limitations when expanding the Pax system.
Thanks in advance for your feedback and suggestions!

Short answer on lighting: Use LED strips with sensors that turn on automatically — simply stick them to the door frame.
Storage expansion: Additional hanging shelves or drawer inserts in standard sizes from third-party suppliers are straightforward and compatible.
This is usually sufficient without major remodeling.

To add to the previous information, I would like to mention some technical details that are important when expanding the Pax with special interior fittings:
- Load capacity: The maximum allowable load for shelves and drawers is approximately 20-30 kg (44-66 lbs), which should be considered when selecting extensions.
- Material choice: For durable solutions, I recommend sturdy plastics or wood products with good craftsmanship that resist moisture and wear.
- Mounting systems: There are modular system profiles that can be installed inside to flexibly attach accessories.
Do you already have a layout in mind regarding which areas of the Pax you prefer to improve? For example, more clothing rods, drawers, or rather shelves?

[@Remkodu] I was in the same situation last year and used a combination of Ikea accessories and some small DIY modifications.
My tip: silicone edge protectors on the drawers improve comfort when opening. What I really enjoyed was installing several small wire baskets that can be moved around flexibly – this way, I created different zones for accessories.
A bit of creativity and fun while setting up makes the Pax much more enjoyable. 😃

Could you say which type of interior fittings are most important to you? More storage space through drawers, ventilation, lighting, or perhaps a combination?Thank you for the detailed answer! I’m very interested in a combination. What appeals to me most is a mix of well-planned surface lighting (preferably automated), flexible and removable organizers, as well as sturdy drawers that can handle heavier items.

For example, more clothing rods, drawers, or shelves?I would definitely focus on drawers and clothing rods, with the drawers being more robust and designed for flexibility; for example, with dividers that can be adjusted or completely removed.
I see lighting as an important comfort feature that enhances the wardrobe – especially in the morning when I want to quickly find what I need.
Does anyone have tips or recommendations for brands or manufacturers offering good upgrade products for Pax that go beyond the standard Ikea shelves?

Does anyone have tips or recommendations for brands or manufacturers offering good retrofit products for Pax that go beyond the Ikea shelves?I’ve noticed that there are specialized suppliers producing accessories for modular wardrobe systems – but you should carefully check how well the dimensions actually match with Pax.
It’s important to note that there are definitely alternatives to Ikea, especially for drawer systems and organizer boxes made from more durable materials such as aluminum or thick plastic. For example, brands that are modular and flexible, although I don’t want to name specific manufacturers since I can’t guarantee perfect fit.
Using 3D printing could also be a niche solution if you are willing to customize something yourself.
