Hello everyone, I am planning to equip my IKEA Platsa furniture with handle strips and am looking for practical, durable solutions. Specifically, I am interested in options to mount the handle strips neatly and securely without damaging the furniture surface. Which materials are best suited, how can the appropriate length of the handle strips be determined, and are there any proven installation methods? I also want to keep the look as close as possible to the original IKEA design. Looking forward to your tips and advice!

Handle strips can be most easily attached using special mounting rails, which IKEA offers or can be found at hardware stores. Adjust the depth and length of the strips to fit the PLATSA module, then simply use screws. Pre-drilling is recommended to prevent the wood from splitting.

As an addition: If you want to fit PLATSA cabinets with handle strips, I recommend the following procedure:

- Measure the front length precisely and allow about 1 cm (0.4 inches) of clearance on each side for the strip.
- Use lightweight aluminum or wooden strips that visually match the existing surfaces.
- Mark the holes before installation and pre-drill them with a 2 mm (0.08 inches) drill bit to prevent cracking.
- Attach the handle strips with short screws from inside the cabinet carcass if possible. Alternatively, use small, concealed screws on the front side.
- Make sure any necessary cutouts for drawer runners or hinges remain unobstructed.

Common mistakes include incorrect measurements or skipping the pre-drilling, which leads to an unclean result. This way, you achieve a stable and neat solution.

Wood strips made of beech or oak offer a high-quality appearance and are easy to work with, while aluminum strips are more durable and have a modern look. It is important that the strips are no thicker than 12 mm (0.5 inches) to avoid overpowering the front. You can measure the length by taking the distance from edge to edge of the front, subtracting a few millimeters, so the strips feel comfortable to grip.

For PLATSA, I used handle strips made from aluminum profiles that you can find at hardware stores. Simply cut them to the right length, pre-drill, and screw them firmly in place. This holds very well and looks clean.

To clarify installation and selection, I recommend systematically addressing the following points:

- Material choice: Wooden strips provide a warm appearance, while aluminum offers a modern, minimalistic design.
- Measurement: The length of the strips should be about 1-2 cm (0.4-0.8 inches) shorter than the front width to avoid sharp edges protruding.
- Fastening: Screws through pre-drilled holes ensure stability; to prevent cracking, use pilot holes.
- Alternatively, high-quality adhesive or double-sided mounting tape can be used if the furniture front will not be subjected to stress.
- The surface should be cleaned before installation to ensure durability.

It is also important to check whether the planned strips interfere with drawer segments or doors to avoid restricting functionality.
