Hello everyone,

I’m currently facing the challenge of disassembling my Malm furniture without using any tools. Therefore, my question to the community is: How can I take apart Malm furniture without tools? Are there any special techniques or tricks to carefully separate the individual parts without causing damage? I am especially concerned about the fasteners, which are usually loosened with an Allen wrench.

It is also important for me to avoid damaging the furniture pieces, as I might want to reassemble or resell them later. If anyone has experience with disassembling this series, I would appreciate detailed advice. Thanks in advance!

That’s really a tricky situation! I once had a similar problem when I suddenly didn’t have the right tools. My advice: try carefully to loosen the joints with everyday items, like a key or even something thin like a small credit card. However, this is more of a last resort and requires a lot of patience.

I completely understand the concern about potential damage – when I tried this, I slightly damaged some drill holes because the metal fittings are really tight. The only way is to gently pry, without using force.

Hopefully this helps, and don’t worry, you’re not alone with this problem! 🙂

In short: Without tools, it is unlikely you will be able to take everything apart safely. Use screwdrivers or sturdy cards for prying. Stubborn joints will be difficult to loosen.

That’s a very practical question you’ve asked! It’s understandable that you might not always have the right tools at hand. In my experience, with a lot of patience and care, some connecting parts can be gently pressed or turned to release them. However, with MALM drawers, for example, everything fits so precisely that I would recommend at least using improvised tools.

I know you want to avoid damage, and that is difficult with this type of furniture without tools because it is designed to be stable and firmly connected. Perhaps you can borrow the proper tools for a short time or buy them inexpensively at a hardware store.

But don’t be discouraged – sometimes, with gentle trial and error, it works out. I wish you good luck and patience!
