Hello everyone, I am currently thinking about how to customize the doors of the IKEA Platsa system in a way that is not too complicated or expensive. I’m interested not only in standard colors but also in creative options like vinyl wrapping, painting, or using special handles. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to modify the doors of the PLATSA shelving unit to make them look personal and stylish? I am especially interested in simple techniques that are easy for less experienced DIYers, but I’m also open to ideas for more advanced projects. Are there any recommended materials or methods that have proven effective? Looking forward to your suggestions!

Simply sand down the doors and spray paint them; this is quick and looks good. Alternatively, you can use adhesive films in various designs, which are easier to handle and can be changed at any time.

Avery’s tip is already very helpful, but I’d like to go into a bit more detail: If you want to customize the PLATSA doors yourself, you can also use liquid chalk paint. This paint has a matte finish and is easy to apply. It’s a good idea to lightly sand the doors beforehand to help the paint adhere better. For a personalized look, stencils can be used to paint patterns or lettering. Additionally, you can choose from various handles – leather, metal, or wooden handles – which can significantly change the style.

If you don’t want to commit to one look, a combination of vinyl film and easily removable handles can be very practical in case you want to try something different later on.

Hey Johan40, that sounds like a really exciting project! 😄 I once had the idea to cover PLATSA doors with self-adhesive wallpaper – simple, quick, and very versatile. You can choose great patterns or even photo wallpapers if you want to get really creative. The important thing is to clean the surface thoroughly beforehand so the adhesive sticks firmly.

Exactly, I think that’s great for people who like to switch things up often. Even small details like new handles in colorful finishes or leather can add a really cool twist. Have fun with your DIY! 😊

It is worthwhile to visit the hardware store before starting your project and pick up some fine sandpaper. This helps paint and film adhere much better. Changing the inserts in the handles is also a good tip for adjusting the appearance over time.

As an additional note: The doors of the PLATSA are quite sturdy, but please make sure not to trap any air bubbles when applying films. It’s best to use a squeegee or a firm card to smooth out the film.

Photo wallpapers are a great idea; they come in many designs and really make an impact. If you want to take it a step further, you can also seal the surfaces with clear varnish for extra protection.
