Hello everyone,

I am planning to better organize the IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets because there is currently a lot of clutter and the use of the existing compartments is not optimal. My cabinets have various widths and depths, some with internal drawers and others with just shelves. I want to know how I can create more order in these cabinets, especially regarding optimal space utilization, separation of different utensils, and easier access to deeper areas.

Are there specific recommendations for systems, inserts, or organization methods that have proven effective? I am also interested in tips on how to flexibly adapt the Metod cabinet interiors to different needs without constantly having to buy new furniture.

Thanks for your ideas!

Hello tofifra,

your question is very well formulated and already gives a clear picture of your situation. When I implement Metod cabinet organization, I usually follow a multi-step process:

- First, I roughly sort the contents by category: pots, dishes, pantry items, small items, etc.
- Then I measure the cabinet interior dimensions precisely, since Metod depths (37 cm (15 inches) or 60 cm (24 inches)) and widths vary, and only then can you be sure to find suitable inserts.
- For deep cabinets without drawers, I recommend pull-outs with full extension, such as the VARIERA series, or rotating carousels, which allow access to more distant corners.

One important point: especially during installation, I make sure the drawer fronts are mounted to match the cabinet height, so the interior pull-outs can fully extend.

Another tip concerns separating utensils: modular boxes or compartments help organize small items systematically. Narrow dividers also help keep stacks neat.

Could you briefly mention which type of utensils you want to organize most? Cookware? Small tools? That affects the most suitable organization aids.

I hope this helps you already.

Hello tofifra,

to create more order in IKEA Metod cabinets, I recommend the following practical solutions:

- Use plastic or wooden drawer inserts to organize the interior clearly.
- Take advantage of the modular design to combine shelves and inserts tailored to your needs.
- For deep compartments, full-extension slides are useful so you can easily reach items stored at the back.
- Kitchen utensils can be well organized in vertically arranged holders or magnetic strips, provided there is enough space inside the cabinet.

These measures offer structured space utilization. Also, make sure to regularly review your inventory to remove unnecessary items.

If you are still unsure about the planning, the IKEA planning tool can help you virtually adjust the modules and test different interior configurations.

I think this is a very important question because organization is always personal. I use Metod cabinets myself and sometimes struggle with how to sort things when you want to keep very different items in one cabinet.

In my experience, you need not only boxes but also a system that makes usage easier. For example, I start by storing items used daily or frequently on the top shelves and rarely used ones lower down or further back. That already adds some structure.

I’m curious to hear what tofifra will say about the specific contents, so we can offer more targeted help.

Absolutely! Organization is not just a state but also an atmosphere. 😉

When organizing my Metod cabinets, I always made sure to balance functionality with the joy of use. One tip that has helped me:

- A clear color-coding system for boxes or labels makes finding things much easier.
- Drawers with different heights can be cleverly combined with slide-in compartments.
- And a little trick: I always keep a small checklist or inventory inside the largest cabinet. That way, nothing gets overlooked.

Maybe this will help turn simple storage into an inviting, orderly space.

Regarding space utilization and access for different Metod cabinet depths, I recommend:

- Use pull-out drawers, especially in deep cabinets with 60 cm (24 inches) depth, to have access to everything inside.
- Different cabinet widths allow for various organization systems, for example, narrow drawer inserts for cutlery or kitchen tools in 40 cm (16 inches) wide cabinets, while 80 cm (31 inches) wide cabinets can accommodate larger baskets.
- A combination of storage boxes and clear dividers not only optimizes space but also prevents clutter.

Specifically for Metod, I can add that the IKEA VARIERA series is very compatible and often underestimated.

Tip: Before purchasing, make a detailed list of your utensils and measure the internal dimensions again. Planning creates order.
