Hello everyone, I’m planning to redesign my home office and am considering the IKEA Platsa furniture system. My specific question is: how can I modify or adjust the modular PLATSA elements to create an optimal, functional, and ergonomic workspace? I’m especially interested in how to effectively combine shelving, desk surfaces, and storage to accommodate technology, work documents, and personal office items. It would also be great to know if there are any smart tips or additions that can make the workspace even more flexible. Thanks for your advice!

Hey Giorgio, great idea with the PLATSA furniture! 🎉 They are really versatile and perfect for a home office. I arranged my modules so that on one side I have open shelves for frequently used items and on the other side closed cabinets for better organization. One tip I can recommend: get some drawer inserts or boxes – they make the whole setup very flexible and tidy. Also, if you connect several PLATSA units, you can use a continuous desktop panel placed on top of the modules – this creates a large, stable workspace. You’ve got this!

Hello Giorgio, to meet your requirements for a functional and ergonomic workspace using IKEA PLATSA, I recommend the following approach: - First, choose modules with adjustable depth to ensure a comfortable distance to the keyboard (at least 60 cm (24 inches)). - Plan for open shelves to keep frequently used work materials easily accessible. - Use closed compartments or doors to store documents dust-free and securely. - Complement PLATSA with compatible desk tops that can be modularly adapted to the base units. - Consider cable management solutions to keep electronics neatly organized. Overall, PLATSA’s modular design makes it especially suitable for customized home office solutions, provided the planning is done carefully.

Hello Giorgio, I like to go into some detail because I personally place great value on customized solutions. For IKEA PLATSA, I recommend first considering the exact room situation. Although the furniture system is flexible to assemble, to create an ergonomic home office workspace, you should keep the following in mind: - The desk height should be between 72 and 75 cm (28 and 30 inches). You can also choose your own tabletop to place on top of the PLATSA modules. - For storage, the lower modules with doors are particularly suitable so that cables and equipment are not visible and can be stored neatly. - In the upper area, you can use open shelves or plexiglass doors to allow quick access to books or folders. - Be sure to pay attention to stability: firmly connect multiple modules with cross braces or brackets, as the individual units can otherwise be somewhat wobbly. - For cable management, I recommend either special clips along the tabletop or cable channels at the back of the modules. - A practical solution is also to attach casters under the lower modules so you can pull them out or move them as needed. I’m curious: How large is your office space, and do you also need space for a printer or additional equipment? That way, the planning can be adjusted more precisely.

If the room is rather small, I recommend using tall PLATSA wall cabinets and keeping the desks small but sturdy. It’s best to place the printer inside a closed cabinet to save space and avoid dust.
