Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question about the IKEA Metod kitchen series, specifically regarding the base cabinets. My goal is to increase the available storage space as efficiently and cleverly as possible. Base cabinets often have a fairly simple basic structure – a large interior space, maybe a few shelves. Are there any proven tips on how to optimize and expand this storage space? Possible options could be additional pull-out drawers, custom dividers, smart organizing systems, or even modifications to the cabinet interiors. I’m using these cabinets in a relatively small kitchen, so every centimeter (0.4 inches) counts. Who can share their experience or creative ideas on how to get more storage out of IKEA Metod base cabinets without having to replace the entire furniture?

Could someone please give me specific recommendations on which IKEA interior drawers or boxes are best suited for intermittent use with large cookware?

In my opinion, it’s worth taking a critical look at both the load capacity and practical utility for questions like this. Many IKEA interior drawers from the Metod series are attractive, but when it comes to load-bearing capacity and durability, they are often limited for very heavy pots and pans.

What I would recommend is not only sticking to the IKEA ecosystem but also considering compatible third-party solutions that offer sturdier drawer slides and higher load capacity. These tend to be a bit more expensive but last longer and usually perform better in everyday use.

It doesn’t make sense if a drawer sticks or breaks after a short time. Also, keep in mind to plan the drawer sizes according to your cookware dimensions—there’s nothing more frustrating than a drawer that’s too small and ends up unusable.

For those who want to put in the effort, it’s also worth considering reinforcing the cabinet shelves individually or using a combination of roller slides and insert frames that provide greater durability.

Exactly! I know DIY enthusiasts like to customize, but sometimes less is more – so it’s better to install a few sturdy pull-out drawers from IKEA (for example from the Maximera range), as they usually offer good quality.

Also: add a bit of color! If you choose the pull-out drawers in a different color or label them with small tags, it’s not only fun but also helps with better organization.

I think pull-out drawers and adjustable shelves are important for me, but they need to be quite flexible in height.

One more tip – combining different heights of drawers and shelves makes sense if, for example, you store large pots in the lower section and smaller items above. That way, you have good control over both!
