Hello everyone, I recently bought a Malm furniture piece from IKEA and want to take proper care of it to keep it looking good for a long time. Can someone explain which cleaning and maintenance methods are suitable specifically for the surfaces of Malm furniture? I am especially interested in tips on how to avoid scratches and how to treat minor damage. Thank you in advance!
Hello Bruna-ix, I completely understand your request for detailed care advice. The Malm furniture from IKEA usually has a melamine coating, which is fairly durable. It is best to clean it regularly with a slightly damp, soft cloth. It is important not to use harsh cleaners, as they can damage the surface.
For scratches or small dents, special repair kits from furniture stores or repair markers, as Repar already mentioned, can be helpful. However, you should use these treatments sparingly and focus more on prevention by using coasters and protective pads for household items to avoid scratches from forming in the first place.

That's great that you're putting so much thought into this! 🙂 I've been cleaning my Malm chest of drawers for years with just a simple microfiber cloth and some soapy water. Important: always dry it immediately to prevent water from soaking in. For minor scratches, there are also excellent wax pads, which I personally like to use – they really make a difference! Good luck, you can do it!

Use wax pads only on white or also on darker surfacesI mainly use them on white surfaces because matching the color is easier there. For darker surfaces, I often try furniture polish with added color instead. And very important: always test first in an inconspicuous area! 🙂
