Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to build a custom wardrobe system and came across IKEA Platsa. My specific question is: How can I design a flexible, tailor-made wardrobe system using the PLATSA system from IKEA that is both functional and visually adapted to my room’s conditions? I am particularly interested in solutions for combining different modules in order to create special storage space or to make the best use of niches. Additionally, it would be helpful to get tips on which additions and accessories are useful to make the system as durable and stable as possible, without it looking like a mismatched collection of furniture.

Has anyone had experience with planning, assembling, or later customizing PLATSA? I would appreciate any advice, especially regarding independent modifications or connection techniques.

That’s a great question, and I really appreciate your intention to fully explore the possibilities of PLATSA. Because of its modular design, PLATSA is especially suitable for creating tailor-made solutions. My main recommendations are as follows:

- First, measure your available space very carefully. Take precise measurements of width, height, and depth, since PLATSA components come in various sizes.
- Use IKEA’s online PLATSA planner as an initial guide, where you can combine different modules and virtually test what fits best.
- If you want to fill niches or unusually large areas, you can connect multiple frames together. There are special connectors designed to ensure stability.
- Complement the basic structure with large doors or open compartments, depending on what visually suits your room better.
- During assembly, using additional back panels or stronger screws will improve overall stability.

If you want a more customized interior, you can plan removable shelves or even integrate your own drawers and boxes.

Overall, patience during planning is key. If you’d like, I can share some more detailed tips on connecting modules and enhancing stability.

Exactly, the PLATSA frames can be connected side by side. The connecting screws from IKEA are designed for this and strong enough. Additionally, you can extend or customize the back panels so that everything holds together better.

Exactly, and to elaborate a bit more on stability: it’s important to always ensure that the connecting screws are tightened correctly and with the proper torque during assembly so that nothing wobbles.

What also helps when the cabinet system becomes very tall or wide are additional stabilizers, such as metal brackets or wall mounts, which IKEA offers for PLATSA. These reliably prevent the structure from tipping or giving way.

Additionally, I would recommend, especially for custom solutions that don’t follow standard sizes, fitting the inner compartments with sturdy shelves, since otherwise the modules can quickly feel unstable inside.

For customizations, DIY cover panels or fronts work very well too, for example plywood sheets cut to size and painted. This adds a bit more uniqueness to the whole system without having to rely solely on the predefined design.
