ᐅ How can I better adjust the drawers of the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe?

klonar34Hello everyone,
I have noticed that the drawers of my Ikea Brimnes chest are no longer closing smoothly and evenly. In particular, one of the lower drawers sticks slightly and is not sitting parallel within the cabinet, which makes opening and closing difficult. The mechanism seems to be intact, but the adjustment appears imprecise, and the drawer no longer slides as smoothly as it did initially.
My question: How can I better adjust the drawers of my Brimnes chest to restore a proper fit? Are there any tips on optimizing the drawer slides or the mounting screws without having to remove the entire drawer?
I would appreciate practical advice, ideally including information about the adjustable components on the furniture. Thanks in advance!

Hello klonar34,
I am familiar with the issue with Brimnes drawers. The adjustment usually involves two main components: the sliding rails and the hangers or clips that hold the drawer inside the cabinet.
I recommend the following steps:
- First, completely remove the drawer by carefully lifting it upward and pulling it out.
- The sliding rails are located on the sides. They have small screws that allow you to slightly adjust their position horizontally or vertically.
- Slightly loosening these screws lets you move the rails to align the drawer.
- The plastic clips or fasteners on the sides of the drawer are also important. Sometimes they are slightly bent or not properly snapped in, which can cause misalignment.
- Also check if the rail or the drawer bottom is warped—in that case, gently bending it back or replacing it may be necessary.
Could you let us know if the drawers move at the same height on the left and right sides, or if they scrape against the cabinet frame? This information would help to analyze the cause of the problem more accurately.
Good luck!

Could you tell me if the drawers on the left and right move at the same height or if they tend to rub against the cabinet frame?Thank you for the detailed response! Actually, the problematic drawer on the left sits slightly higher than the one on the right, so it lightly rubs against the upper rail on the left side. I have already loosened the screws on the runners a bit, but the drawer is difficult to adjust precisely because the wood has some play. Also, I get the impression that the plastic clips don’t hold completely firmly, as they can still be shifted with some pressure.
At the same time, I’m wondering if it is common for Brimnes cabinets to have adjustment options for the runners at the back? So far, I have only found screws at the front and sides.
Hello klonar34,
I think it’s great that you’ve already looked at the drawer slides and plastic clips. These are indeed the most important adjustment points for Brimnes drawers.
Regarding the play in the wood: This occurs more often with this model because the back panel is relatively thin and can warp slightly depending on humidity. Here are a few tips:
- First, check if the drawer slides are securely fastened. Sometimes the screws loosen slightly from the carcass, making the guide unstable.
- If possible, you can insert small wooden shims or washers behind the drawer slides to improve alignment.
- Keep in mind: tighten screws carefully to avoid overstressing the wood!
About adjusting the back panel: The Ikea model doesn’t have special adjustment screws at the back of the drawer slides. Alignment is only done via the side fixings, so precise adjustments there are important.
If the plastic clip doesn’t hold properly, it might be slightly worn out. In many cases, minor adjustments with a small screwdriver or replacement through Ikea’s service help.
Take your time when adjusting; it sometimes requires a bit of patience. Good luck!

Hey klonar34,
I’m familiar with the Brimnes set – I’ve also had the drawers behave a bit unpredictably. Maybe this is a good tip: if the drawer seems to stick or isn’t fitting flush, try removing it completely and, when putting it back in, wiggle and adjust it slightly. Sometimes the rail will “find” its correct position on its own.
If the clip is really loose, don’t worry – they’re designed to be somewhat flexible and allow a little play. However, if there’s too much movement, you could carefully apply a few drops of all-purpose glue on the back of the clip to secure it lightly without blocking the mechanism.
Good luck, and don’t get discouraged – Brimnes can be a bit tricky sometimes, but it is adjustable!

die Kunststoffclips nicht ganz fest fixieren, da man sie mit etwas Druck noch verschieben kann.
