Hello everyone, I bought the IKEA Brimnes bed and am currently a bit stuck with the assembly. My specific question is: what are the best ways to avoid common problems when putting together the Brimnes bed? I have already read several parts of the instructions, but some steps are not entirely clear, especially the assembly of the storage boxes and inserting the slatted bed bases. Are there any particular tips or tools that can help make the process faster and error-free? Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hello marianra, your concern about the holders is valid. With my Brimnes bed, I always carefully inserted the slatted bed bases from one side to the other at a slight angle and never used excessive force. The sockets are quite tight to ensure everything stays securely in place – the plastic holders can indeed break if you apply too much pressure. My tip: protect the holders with a cloth while inserting and tilt the slatted base slightly, which makes fitting smoother. If possible, get someone to help when inserting it, as this distributes the force better.

My tip: When installing, protect the brackets with a cloth and tilt the slatted frame slightly, which makes fitting smoother.Exactly! I did the same last time, and it went super smoothly! 😊 Sometimes it really helps to have a helper and go through the process step by step. This way, you avoid frustration and damaged parts.
Hi marianra, I can only agree with the previous tips, but here’s a quick addition: If the instructions are no longer enough, it often helps to roughly go through the individual steps beforehand, like loosely clipping or positioning parts without fully fastening everything. This will save you annoying corrections in the end. And yes, when handling the slatted bed bases: it always goes better with some light music 😉 Good luck with everything!

Do I need to be especially careful here, or is there a trick to protect the slatted frame holders?Exactly, caution is essential in this case. The holders are made of relatively flexible plastic, which is durable but can crack or bend if installed improperly. My additional tip: if possible, lightly treat the holders with some silicone spray or even perfume water (yes, that helps) before final installation. This makes it easier for the slatted frames to slide in and protects the material. Alternatively, you can gently twist while inserting instead of just pushing straight down.
I wanted to add: When attaching the screws, start by tightening them by hand and only fully tighten them later once everything is properly aligned. This way, you can more easily compensate for any inaccuracies. It’s also a good idea to have the instructions open alongside you instead of just looking at the pictures, as important details are often included in the accompanying text.
Thanks for all the helpful tips! I’ll tackle it tonight using the rubber mallet and a cloth to protect the brackets. One last question: Is it better to fully tighten the screws with a cordless drill, or should I use a screwdriver? I have one with adjustable torque settings, but I’m unsure about the risk of the wood splitting.
