Hello everyone, I am planning to buy a Malm furniture piece from Ikea and assemble it myself. I have a question: How can I assemble Malm furniture on my own without making mistakes or damaging parts? I have some practical experience, but I am not familiar with the specific details of this type of furniture. I am especially interested in the best order of steps, which tools I definitely need to have ready, and any tips to avoid common pitfalls during assembly. It would also be helpful to know if there are any special techniques for securely and easily fitting the back panels or drawers. Thanks for any advice!

Are there possibly special screws in Malm that are very difficult to screw in by hand? Most screws used in Malm are fairly standard with a Phillips head. For some fasteners, such as Lamello or Minifix, it can occasionally be a bit more challenging, but this is not common. Sometimes a dowel insertion tool or a patient start by hand can help, and then you can carefully assist with a cordless drill. It is important not to drive the screws in too deep to avoid damaging the material.I would like to add that, besides having the right tools, the installation location can also be crucial. A solid, level surface and enough space help to avoid stress. Additionally, I recommend unpacking all parts early to get a complete overview. This reduces uncertainty and builds confidence in the process. 🙂

Start the screws by hand very gently I will try that. It makes sense to prepare the screws first before applying force.

Don’t tighten too deep to avoid damaging the material This advice is very important. I’ve had issues in earlier projects with over-tightened screws, which caused damaged holes.
Thank you all for the helpful tips! If anyone has advice on installing the drawers, I would appreciate it very much.
