Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Malm dresser set and now I’m facing the issue that the drawers are very difficult to assemble. In particular, installing the slides and adjusting the drawers is challenging – it seems like you need a lot of force to get everything properly aligned and fitted.
My question is: How can I assemble MALM drawers more easily and efficiently, without the slides sticking or anything bending? Are there any special tips, tools, or techniques that make the assembly process smoother? Maybe someone here has practical experience with this IKEA model and can offer valuable advice.
Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions!

How can I assemble MALM drawers more easily and efficiently without the rails sticking or bending? The best approach is to first check all parts carefully and apply a light lubricant – a small amount of silicone grease on the drawer slides usually helps. Then insert the drawers slowly and straight, avoiding any angled pressure.

A bit of silicone grease on the runners usually helps. That's true, silicone grease works great, but be careful not to use too much, or the runners will attract dust and make things worse over time.
I recommend the following approach:
1. Check if the runners are installed correctly and not bent.
2. Slightly adjust the screws so the runners operate without play but aren't too tight.
3. When inserting the drawer, lift it slightly to relieve some pressure on the ball bearings.
This helps prevent jamming and reduces the effort needed.
It’s also important not to bend the drawer’s side panels too much, as this often causes binding.
Question: Are you using the metal or plastic rollers on your MALM?

Your tip about readjusting the screws seems especially important, since I noticed during the initial assembly that some screws were a bit too tight. That could indeed increase the friction when sliding the drawer in.
Also, I definitely want to avoid bending the drawer or side panels—I actually have the feeling I sometimes insert it at a slight angle, which of course is not ideal.
Would you recommend aligning the drawer slides before installation or checking them with a spirit level? Or is it sufficient to assemble all parts on a flat surface? I’m not sure how precise the alignment needs to be during assembly.
