Hello everyone,
I have ordered the Ikea Platsa corner cabinet and am now facing the challenge of assembling it correctly. My question is: What is the best way to assemble an Ikea Platsa corner cabinet to ensure stability and functionality?
I am especially interested in any proven methods or special tips that make the assembly easier. Are there any particular aspects of the corner connections that should be considered?
Additionally, it would be helpful to know whether it is better to fix the unit to the wall or if it is stable enough without wall mounting. What tools are necessary, and are there any tips for a smooth assembly, for example when inserting the back panels or adjusting the doors?
I have some experience with Ikea furniture, but this corner cabinet seems a bit more complex because of its design. I look forward to your detailed experiences and advice!

My question is: How can an Ikea PLATSA corner cabinet be assembled optimally to ensure maximum stability and functionality? That’s a great question! The PLATSA corner cabinet definitely brings a bit of a puzzle vibe to the heart of your home – but! 😊
A few tips from my experience:
- First, I recommend sorting all the parts and reading the instructions thoroughly, word for word. It may feel a bit dry at the start, but it will save you a lot of frustration later.
- Corner joints in PLATSA are particularly critical. It’s best to work with two people, as connecting the frames becomes much easier and ensures clean edges.
- Make sure to tighten all metal rails and connector plates carefully, as they have a major impact on the stability.
- Wall mounting is highly advisable, even if the cabinet feels sturdy on its own. It’s about safety, especially if there are small children in the house – better safe than wobbly!
- You can push the back panels in more securely by inserting them with a blunt edge and some force.
- Finally, adjust the doors using the hinges; there are small screws you can turn to prevent them from sliding or sticking.
With patience and a bit of confidence, you’ll nail it. And don’t worry, you’ll feel proud once it’s all set up! 😉

Are there any special considerations for corner joints that should be kept in mind?Regarding corner joints in the PLATSA corner cabinet: it is crucial to align the individual modules exactly at right angles before tightening the connecting brackets and screws. Any misalignment will cause problems when assembling the following modules and may affect doors and drawers.
Using a spirit level is very helpful, not only for the corner joints but also to level the entire cabinet during wall mounting. Additionally, I recommend always using the supplied anchors and screws for wall fixing, especially with soft wall materials like drywall.
Tools: A cordless drill with adjustable torque helps prevent over-tightening screws. A rubber mallet can assist in gently pressing parts together.
If possible, check the wall’s suitability for heavy furniture before installation. For more solid walls, regular anchors are sufficient; otherwise, use special heavy-duty anchors.
Summary: align corner joints at right angles, securely fix to the wall, and use quality tools. This ensures the corner cabinet will be reliably stable.

Which tools are necessary, and are there any tips for a smooth assembly, for example when fitting the back panels or adjusting the doors?Tools: Phillips screwdriver, cordless drill, spirit level.
For the back panels, gently tap them into place with a light hammer to secure them properly.
Adjust the doors using the hinge screws – usually, a small turn is enough.
Always follow the steps carefully and do not skip any parts.

A misaligned orientation later causes problems when assembling the other modules and can affect doors and drawers. That’s exactly what I experienced too – a crooked corner module really spoils the overall look, and the doors don’t close properly.

It’s best to tap the back panels lightly with a hammer to secure them properly.Oh yes, patience is definitely needed! The first time, I almost hit my finger with a nail, so be careful. 😅
What also worked really well for me was to only screw the screws in loosely at first, then align everything and make adjustments before tightening them completely.
And one more tip: Taking short breaks and catching your breath during assembly helps keep your motivation up. PLATSA corner units aren’t easy, but the final result is great!
