Hello everyone,

I am planning to install an IKEA Metod kitchen island in my new kitchen and am looking for efficient tips to assemble it as quickly and error-free as possible. The IKEA assembly instructions are understandable, but due to the many individual parts and different modules, they can be a bit confusing—especially when it comes to attaching the countertop and the drawer units.

I am interested in any strategies or sequences you would recommend to optimize the assembly. Are there specific tools or preparations that can significantly speed up the process? How do you handle the often unpopular assembly steps like aligning the drawers or gluing the countertop?

I appreciate your practical experiences or advice on common pitfalls, so I can set up the kitchen island quickly and without much stress.

Work through the instructions step by step, but prepare everything in advance. Sort the screws, lay out the parts, and use tools like a cordless drill.

It is best to install the countertop with two people; this makes the process faster and more precise.

I can only agree with this, adding the preparation of a well-lit and tidy workspace to minimize search times and ensure clear organization.

For the quick assembly of the Metod kitchen island, using magnetic screwdrivers is also recommended to pick up screws faster and hold them securely in place.

Regarding the countertop: secure the IKEA side panels and support the countertop during assembly to prevent damage and make precise alignment easier.

For fine-tuning the drawers, I suggest assembling and aligning all modules completely before attaching the fronts. This saves complex readjustments.

Regarding tools: A regular cordless drill is useful, but a cordless impact driver would be much faster, especially when handling the carcasses.

Also, the approach is crucial – many think everything needs to be screwed in tightly from the start. My advice: first assemble loosely, align everything, then tighten it.

I fully agree with that. Forcing screws in without care often leads to tensions and crooked components.

And yes, working in pairs definitely speeds up assembling the kitchen island – many underestimate that.

In addition to the points mentioned so far, I recommend paying particular attention to the order when installing the drawer slides. According to the IKEA instructions, they should be installed precisely and parallel; otherwise, everything will stick later on, and rework will take considerably more time.

It can also be helpful to assemble all large components temporarily before final assembly to get a feel for their fit and to identify any necessary adjustments.

Another practical tip: instead of the supplied wood screws, it is often better to use high-quality Spax screws, as they grip better and require less frequent tightening.

Make sure that the countertop is laid out and prepared before assembling the cabinet units to optimize workflow and avoid unnecessary repeated steps.
