Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I bought a Billy bookshelf from Ikea, which unfortunately has become slightly warped. It no longer stands completely straight, and some of the shelves appear a bit crooked. I would prefer not to take the entire piece apart or undertake a lot of work, but rather I’m looking for simple, practical ways to straighten the Billy bookshelf or at least significantly reduce the warping.

Does anyone have experience or tips on how to fix a warped Billy bookshelf with minimal effort? Maybe methods that can be done at home without special tools or much work? Who knows, maybe just a few tricks with screws, shims, or something similar will be enough.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

I read that you want to fix your Billy shelf with as little effort as possible. One important point I would like to add is to check the screws and wall plugs holding the shelf together. Sometimes these loosen over time, which is easy to fix and often makes the shelf more stable and straight.

Also, the shelves in Billy units are sometimes just resting in place – it helps to remove them briefly and then put them back in, making sure they are properly aligned. If the shelves are warped, you might be able to flip them over if the back side is less affected.

If the shelf still feels a bit wobbly, it is actually a good idea to secure it to the wall as well; this is usually straightforward with the included wall-mounting hardware.

I hope this helps you a bit!

Quick solution: Check the back panel, cut the base supports to size, and if necessary, screw the shelf to the wall. No further work is needed.
