Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of connecting the corners of IKEA Platsa cabinets in the most professional and stable way possible. I am particularly interested in which methods or joints are best suited to create a durable corner connection that looks clean and holds firmly without frequent adjustments.
What techniques does IKEA typically use for this? Are special fasteners recommended, or are there craftsmanship tips that have proven effective? I want to avoid any wobbling or damage over time, so detailed advice would be appreciated—such as how to best combine screws, dowels, connectors, or other components and how to properly assemble the corner joint.
Thanks in advance for your expertise and tips!

Good questions!
Regarding the alignment of the Lamello connectors, I recommend:
- Use a biscuit joiner or a suitable template to position the slots precisely.
- Before permanently inserting the connector plates, loosely assemble all parts and mark them to identify any inaccuracies.
- Use clamps when gluing or screwing to press the corner joint flush and without offsets.
Regarding the back panels: The original tongue-and-groove back panels from IKEA are usually sufficiently stable, as they connect the entire back and thus prevent any twisting. Alternatively, plywood or multiplex boards can be used, which are often even more stable but require adjustments.
In summary: Perfect alignment and the use of original back panels plus brackets for corner reinforcement result in a durable and stable construction.
