Hello,
we originally planned to build with a basement, but unfortunately that now seems unlikely due to the soil conditions. We simply need storage space. We tend to collect things and don’t like to throw things away. Having a house won’t suddenly change that, I want to be honest with myself.
Where do you store items that don’t fit in the utility closet?
What interesting storage options do you have besides the usual utility room, which is already half taken up by technical installations and the washing machine and where you don’t really want to store clutter, and the attic? Where do you keep your hobby workshop?
What are your solutions?
I would be very happy to get some suggestions, maybe even with plans or pictures.
Edit:
We are building with a shed roof and therefore have no attic.
We will not have a garage or carport.

Yes, and I actually received an interesting idea from you:
I hadn’t thought about having a storage room on the upper floor before. If it’s located under the taller side of a mono-pitched roof, you could install shelves all the way up to the roof or perhaps cleverly add a second small mezzanine level there. That easily adds about 6 cubic meters (210 cubic feet) of space.
So always keep it smooth and flexible
Edit:
Just as valuable to me is a “We were in the same situation and still managed it” type of post.

2. Include sufficiently large closets in the bedroom/walk-in closet, living room, utility room (wherever needed) for winter/summer clothes, Christmas decorations, children's toys, etc., or consider additional rooms.
3. Larger garden shed for everything needed outdoors, plus, if applicable, strollers, vehicles of all kinds, and so on.
I honestly can’t think of anything else.
Oh, wait, one more thing: I recently saw an earth cellar used as a basement alternative. Whether someone wants that or not is up to each individual.

I have to say that I also like to keep things, unlike my wife, who was negatively influenced by her mother’s hoarding tendencies.
In our attic (hip roof with a truss structure), we installed some half-height shelves and stored a lot up there. In the end, there was more space than I originally thought.
Other items that can’t handle the temperature fluctuations in the cold attic are stored in the utility room on shelves. We also have a built-in wall unit in the guest/office room with plenty of storage for binders, vases, office supplies, photo albums, and other miscellaneous items.
In our wardrobe, I built a fitted closet myself using Ikea interiors and doors combined with side panels from the hardware store. There is still some space available at the top there as well.
What I found problematic so far was storing tools and construction materials. There is always something to do around the house, and carrying tools and materials through the attic hatch is inconvenient. We also have bicycles and garden tools that previously had no place and were relocated only later.
Now that our 9m (30 ft) long large garage is built, there is space for everything that previously had no proper place.
Since a garage or carport isn’t planned for your property, you would need to consider setting up a larger tool or garden shed on the lot.
If outdoor storage areas are planned only for later and you need a temporary solution, a used site container could also be an option that you can sell again afterwards.

A tool shed or garden shed will definitely be added. Hopefully, it will be a bit larger, but it is naturally somewhat damp and therefore only suitable for the usual items you store in a garden shed.
A garage or carport is not an option because the zoning plan does not allow it, and the plot is very small. We would have to place the garage in the garden. Unfortunately, the most practical spot right next to the house is not allowed to be built on.

I would store the stroller (and all textiles) in a dry place, meaning inside the house. We once had a situation with our eldest child where the stroller was kept in the garage, and the padding eventually developed mold spores due to the moisture.
We are not collectors ourselves, but with three children, you end up accumulating quite a lot. Currently, we have a basement. However, due to high groundwater pressure and because we don’t like going into the basement, we decided against having one in the new build.
We have planned a 12 sqm (130 sq ft) utility room including the technical equipment, with enough space for a large closet or shelving unit (about 2.5 m (8 feet) of storage space) for shoes, sports bags, muddy and rain clothing. The wardrobe area will also have a very large shoe cabinet and plenty of hooks for jackets, etc. Additionally, we have a pantry over 4 sqm (43 sq ft) and a broom closet under the stairs. The living room will also get a large built-in wall unit sooner or later.
On the upper floor, there is also a 2 sqm (22 sq ft) built-in closet for cleaning supplies, toilet paper storage, and so on. A hobby room on the upper floor, which also serves as a guest room and office, measures 18 sqm (194 sq ft). In the bedroom, there is a 3 m (10 feet) wall for a closet in addition to the walk-in wardrobe. In the attic, we have a storage room with a floor area of 20 sqm (215 sq ft), but this is fully under the slope without knee walls, so the usable space is somewhat less. This is where we will store decoration and children’s clothes that we keep.
We also planned a double garage for one car. The second car is parked outside. The garage will hold 5 bicycles, a workbench, and shelves. For later, there is a plan for a carport and a storage shed behind the garage for firewood, a trailer, garden toys, and equipment.
That sounds like an incredible amount of space. I am confident it will be more than enough.
