Hello everyone,
I need some advice on planning the garage for now. See the attachment.

Is a garage width of 5.51m (18 feet) too narrow?
What would be the optimal width?

Best regards,
Franze

Yes – it’s too small... a Passat is listed as 2.18 m wide (7.15 ft) – two of them make 4.36 m (14.3 ft)... leaving 1.15 m (3.77 ft) for 3 sides; so roughly 38 cm (15 inches) per door. Place a few boxes next to your car at a 38 cm (15 inches) distance and try it out.

What width would you recommend as optimal?

I have to be honest, I would try it—exactly with cardboard boxes and my car. Also, it really depends a lot on your property and your planning, and ultimately on the offers you receive. If I had all the space in the world and could choose freely, I would probably go for 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) per car—but at least 3 meters (9.8 feet).

However, I don’t have a garage; so you’re talking to a garage-width theorist 😀

Here in the house building forum, we use the informal "you." 🙂

I also find the width a bit tight. To understand the dimensions for cars and to plan parking spaces (bottom right on the next page), the following site is useful xxx//de.automobiledimension.com/

Maybe integrate the "technical" room into the house after all... what is supposed to be inside there anyway?
