Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Looks huuuuge

As usually predicted, this changes. The empty foundation slab appeared huge. The bare walls make it feel small when walking through. And from above, I agree with you again.

With 16 x 9 meters (52.5 x 29.5 feet), it’s indeed not exactly small.

Honestly? I stood in my living room and desperately tried to find space for the kitchen, utility room, and hallway—it felt so tiny to me, the foundation slab.

Yes. It was just one "huge" open area. Far too abstract to already picture specific rooms (with their surrounding) walls.

For us, it was more like this! Excavation for the basement—wow, that’s huge. Then the foundation slab was poured, and I thought, wow, that looks small. The basement walls were built—okay, small but manageable. The house was delivered—hmm, seems smaller than expected. While cleaning, I think it could have been smaller. When visiting others, I think, wow, our house is big.

Four houses were built around the same time in our area. I already considered our 120m² (1,292 sq ft) foundation to be relatively large, but it was also quite long and L-shaped. The other houses had simple rectangular foundations; one timber frame house in particular had a slab of just under 60m² (645 sq ft), which looked more like the base for a garden shed.

Our foundation slab was mistaken for the garage. It looked so small.

I also thought the foundation slab was small, but once the walls were up, it fit perfectly.
