Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

Before March 2014:

After May 2015:

Our "garden" will be even smaller—and I’m grateful for that. I need a raised bed, space for my tomatoes, and a nice terrace. Everything else would just mean more work.
We are both working full-time and happy not to have extra tasks to handle. What isn’t terrace, raised bed, or tomato patch will either be covered with drainage gravel and perennials or low-maintenance, walkable ground cover—and that’s enough.

(Next to it is the property of my soon-to-be 78-year-old mother; that’s a responsibility. Our tiny garden can be purely for enjoyment.)

Our outdoor landscaping will start next week or the week after.
This year: wall, lawn, terrace, filling the house entrance and courtyard,
planting a perennial bed.

The downside of having a large area and a great garden landscaper who, unfortunately, works alone.

There is still a 5m (16 feet) wide strip of lawn behind the house... But yes – that is our garden and our house, and that was all we could manage.

That is more than enough. With planting and the lawn, it will look bigger anyway. Six meters (20 feet) behind the house is enough space for the kids, and over the years, the garden beds will fill in the corner. It will be very cozy and attractive in 10 years.

I just hope that area behind isn’t designated for affordable housing...

No, that behind is our next residence.

A retirement home.

Perfect, it’s close by, so you can easily go over to the kids for lunch...

The wall construction project is complete, and the paver has already made significant progress. We are already enjoying the first hours on the shaded north-facing terrace.

Paved courtyard in front of the entrance, concrete block wall, fence, and green hedge.

Modern white house with paved driveway, stone wall, and wire fence on the right.

Paved courtyard with stone wall made of concrete blocks next to fence; round cover visible.

Outdoor area of a house: paved terrace, table, two wooden chairs, construction gravel, and blocks.
