Hello,

It would be really great if everyone here could just post one or a few pictures showing the current state of their house.

I'll start right away.

For renovations, it’s best to provide a comparison of before and after the remodeling.

After May 2015:

Since our architect fortunately visits the construction site regularly, I’m not too worried about the approximately 3 "missing days"

I didn't mean it to sound too dramatic. But it seems not everyone who is "expecting" a new home manages to briefly switch off mentally during this time.

During the construction phase, we took one week to visit Rome and a sailing trip to MVP. In total, we were away for three weeks. So what? Karsten

Not everyone is as relaxed as you and therefore doesn’t want to miss a single day of construction progress. For most homeowners, this is likely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and quite understandable from that perspective, even though I personally wouldn’t mind being away for a week.

But you have probably noticed that in some aspects, you think a bit differently compared to many other homeowners here, which I mean without any judgment. So, your "so what?" response surprises me a little. Overall, I believe you live much more relaxed with your—exaggeratedly—faith-in-God, laissez-faire, and “it’ll-work-out-somehow” attitude compared to the more worry-prone and detail-focused (often younger) homeowners, a category I would count myself in (except for the young part). Taking a break is difficult in that mindset because you want to closely experience the build and maybe even convince yourself you can control things more precisely than those responsible for supervision. Looking at some posts here, that is not an unreasonable approach.

I think it was in Winnetou where there was a “more intense coordination” with the main contractor regarding the window sills. If you’re not there during that week, it’s unfortunate because once they are installed, after a week the willingness to remove them again is definitely lower, especially when the rest of the work has progressed. In another thread, there was a discussion about a hole in the exterior wall to feed a cable outside. In the worst-case scenario, this happens during vacation and is quickly filled again without you being able to see it—and then you are surprised later by a damp wall with mold. And of course, in the end, no one wants to take responsibility...

A little extra supervision by the homeowner is therefore not a bad thing. With "trust is good, control is better," you tend to lean more towards trust and feel comfortable there, while others lean more towards control. I wouldn't want to judge that; it just has to fit the individual, as does taking a vacation during the construction phase.

This time, you were not just the homeowners but also second-time parents.

That’s right. You have to be extremely vigilant, and this applies at the beginning just as much to the positioning of drains or the insulation and level of the slab as it does later to the window sills.

But I don’t want to scare anyone here—I actually admire the calmness.

Already new pictures again today... things are moving fast now.

Are gaps like this between precast concrete elements normal at this stage?

Normal? No idea, but it looks the same for us...
