Is the tiny round "thing" to the right of the front door handle the keyhole?Yes, exactly. You need to be able to unlock the door somehow 🙂S
Strahleman15 Jul 2021 11:01In the past few weeks, progress has been moving along quickly on our project. The painters are currently working, applying color to the walls. I’m really relieved that we decided not to do this ourselves, especially seeing how often small areas need to be filled and repainted. The living area and my son’s room already have their colorful walls. The bathroom has also been fully tiled, and I’m looking forward to using the new shower for the first time 😀 Meanwhile, I’ve been working on the network cabinet and the roller shutter control system. After two weekends, everything was installed and programmed.
Starting next week, we’ll be able to lay our floors. I’m really curious to see how the house will look then. Right now, it still very much looks like a construction site. The last electrical work will also be done soon, and since today, excavators have been working outside to level the ground around the house so that we won’t step down about 1.3 meters (4 feet) when going out through the patio doors 🙂

Is there any other way to open the door?

Nothing seems to have changed at the neighbor’s place yet. You’re absolutely right. He has since added some gravel to compensate for the height difference between the neighbor’s basement depth of 2.90m (9 feet 6 inches) and ours with a foundation depth of 2.60m (8 feet 6 inches), since the court ruling prohibits him from underpinning any further. Then on Saturday, a surveyor came to measure the depth accurately.
According to the new building permit application (his third by now), he now plans to set his basement at our 2.60m (8 feet 6 inches) level. However, he seems to be facing a height issue because he wouldn’t be able to comply with the maximum total building height of 11m (36 feet)—at least judging by the long faces around the excavation site. 🙄
On Monday, the last—or should I say second to last—house in the area will be constructed. Now all that’s missing is Bob the Builder and his skilled crew.
Meanwhile, more and more neighbors are getting frustrated with him, as we still have a large pile of soil in our garden, which will eventually have to be put back into the terrace hole that the neighbor unlawfully dug out. This is increasingly obstructing the neighbors’ garden landscaping.
But everyone knows who’s responsible. 😉
